EPConsult Energies Supports INEOS Concept Development via Innovative Production Efficiency Assessment

Production optimization of existing fields and improving the profit margin of new developments is a complex challenge for the oil industry especially in a ‘lower for longer’ environment. In recent years production efficiency (PE) has become so important that it can be a key selection criterion when determining whether to proceed with a new Field Development. INEOS O&G DK are currently screening field development concepts for the Hejre and Solsort fields. As part of this concept development study EPConsult Energies have completed a Production Efficiency Assessment for the Hejre/Solsort co-development in the Danish North Sea sector. EPConsult Energies (EPEn) have reviewed various development options and advised INEOS on the best concept selection outcome in terms of production efficiency. The findings of a PE assessment can create significant value providing: • Insight into the most critical equipment and systems in the plant • Optimisation of spares holding • Guidance as to how logistical challenges can be improved The methodology of PE modelling is as follows: • Data gathering via industry reference source data such as OREDA, operator experience and past project experience • Preparing an inherent availability model which does not include any planned maintenance constraints • Reviewing the critical analysis to understand which items are most critical • Preparing an operational model using data on manning, sparing and logistics • After the initial operational model is complete various sensitivities can be performed to optimize sparing philosophies and maintenance strategies. An innovative feature of this PE assessment was that the Operator wished to include well intervention data and EPConsult Energies were able to incorporate this holistic well to terminal approach into the standard assessment. EPEn’s extensive experience in Production Efficiency assessment (also commonly referred to as Reliability, Availability and Maintainability assessment) means that we have developed a substantial database of reliability and operational data which we can use to benchmark results.
