Khalda Petroleum Company is progressing the FEED phase for Kalabsha Central Processing Facility Upgrade Project. EPEn has been supporting the project with the implementation of HAZID Study, performance of Safety Critical Elements (SCE) study and development of Bow-Tie Diagrams.

The expansion project was required for the handling of increased production volumes and a higher water cut.  The project is at the FEED stage and the SCE study began with a high level HAZID in order to identify the major accident hazards (MAHs) that might cause harm to personnel.   The hazards were assessed using a five by five risk matrix with agreed definitions for likelihood and consequences.  Following on from the HAZID workshop the identified MAHs were examined in more detail in order to identify threats, barriers, consequences and recovery measures.  The details captured during the workshop were subsequently used to prepare Bow-Tie Diagrams.  A Hazards and Effects Register was also prepared together with an SCE matrix.
