Climate Change Services

Every organisation is different and will require nuanced methods to gauge current vulnerability to climate change and plan steps to becoming more climate resilient. Whether your organisation is publicly funded, a business, or a non-profit, large or small, climate change is sure to impact your business activities. The methods we use will be tailored to suit the size and scope of your organisation.

The methodology is designed to be as participatory as possible, giving your team a chance to engage in the process and along the way, learn more about climate change and their role in helping the organisation to prepare for it.

Our Goals

  • Help organisations globally to become more climate resilient.

  • Build capacity for climate change adaptation by using a participatory approach.

  • Contribute to the achievement of local, regional, provincial and national targets for climate change mitigation and adaptation.

Our Methodology

Our methodology includes the following basic steps:

Step 1 - Organisation Profile - We will put together an overview of your organisation and the climate impacts relevant to the geographic area(s) in which you work. This will include a description of any buildings or infrastructure, staffing, clientele, business activities, and an inventory of any climate change efforts already underway. This will be done through a review of your website, annual reports and interviews with senior management.

Step 2 - Site Visits - In collaboration with your project team, we will undertake a review of your buildings and infrastructure to assess their vulnerability to predicted climate impacts in the region. Involving members from your team will help build their capacity to consider climate change planning as an integral part of their work.

Step 3 - Physical Vulnerability Mapping and Modelling - Focusing first on physical infrastructure, we will work with your engineers/building maintenance staff to map specific areas of vulnerability considering climate change hazards and sensitivity to each. This stage is undertaken using best international standard. If required, we will undertake detailed modelling to assess the potential climate change impacts on the organisation including coastal flooding, rising storm surge, sea level, waves and beach erosion, coastal inundation etc.

Step 4 - Social Vulnerability Mapping and Cost-benefit Analysis - For this stage we will work closely with your team to review how current and predicted climate change impacts will affect the people in your organisation and the activities you undertake. We propose a staff workshop at this point to present the results of the physical vulnerability mapping exercise, conduct a social vulnerability assessment, and begin to brainstorm actions to address key vulnerabilities. The workshop will be interactive and informative, and serve as a professional development opportunity for your team members, to build their knowledge of climate change, and their commitment to climate change preparedness. The workshop will complement background work undertaken by our team using tools developed by international standards. The workshop will also consider the cost-benefit analysis of implementing the Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation Plans and Strategies to provide justifications for any CAPEX or OPEX associated with climate change adaptation/control measures.

Step 5 - Action Plans - We will compile the findings of the mapping exercises and highlight key vulnerabilities. Based on staff input as well as research on best practices, we will pull together a list of recommended actions to help your organisation become more resilient in the face of climate change.

Step 6 – Climate Change Management- Based on the outcome of the above steps, we will develop a custom designed climate change framework, plans, strategies, etc for your organization including:

  • Climate Change Mitigation.

  • Climate Change Adaptation.
